Billy Binion is a reporter at Reason, where he writes about criminal justice, civil liberties, and government accountability. Billy has established himself as one of the foremost reporters on qualified immunity, the legal doctrine that makes it exceedingly difficult to sue government officials accused of misconduct. In the summer of 2020, his work was cited by members of the NFL, NBA, and MLB in a letter to Congress expressing their support for reform. In 2022, he was named a winner of the Novak fellowship, where he spent a year writing about law enforcement misconduct and the importance of government accountability. Prior to his career in journalism, Billy worked as a contractor at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, as well as in the performing arts, appearing with such companies as the Virginia Opera and Virginia Musical Theatre. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
